----------------------------------------------------------------------
James Jay Cowgill, born May 26th, 1942, passed away peacefully on
January 20th, 2025, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease in
Louisville, Kentucky.
Jim is survived by his beautiful bride of 53 years, Judy
(Alexander); and their two daughters, Jennifer and Joanne. His five
grandchildren, Emily, Natalie, Madeline, Jack, and Ashley, were his
pride and joy. He is also survived by his two brothers, Phil and
Glenn (Jamie); and cousin, Michael Creamer. Jim was the proud uncle
of many nieces and nephews.
Born in Grove City, Ohio, Jim developed his love for horses and the
restaurant business. He was an avid sports fan and former baseball
coach. He eventually called Louisville, Kentucky his home and raised
his family there. He loved his family fiercely and dedicated his
time to his faith, and to coaching basketball at St. Helen Catholic
Church.
After a long and successful career in the restaurant business, he
was able to retire and work at Churchill Downs, which was a dream
come true. He was happy to share his passion for horses with others
and help them fall in love with the racing industry.
Visitation will be held at Highlands Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville
Road, on Sunday, January 26th, from 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
Jim will be greatly missed and in lieu of flowers, the family
requests donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the Michael J.
Fox Foundation.
